Clarity Informatics is a UK‑based healthtech company that has been a significant provider of digital solutions for the primary care sector, particularly for general practice (GP) surgeries and other community healthcare settings. Originally established as a spin‑out from Newcastle University, the company grew over two decades into a well‑recognised provider of IT systems used across the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), employing more than 50 people in the North East of England and operating internationally.

At its core, Clarity Informatics specialises in developing software platforms that support clinical practice and administrative efficiency. Its products included web‑based compliance and workforce management tools, appraisal and revalidation software, e‑learning libraries, and evidence‑based clinical guidance systems. One of its most widely used solutions authoritatively contributes to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS), a trusted resource accessed monthly by a large portion of the NHS clinical workforce to help inform diagnosis and treatment decisions.

The company’s tools have been widely adopted: for example, Clarity’s appraisal software was reportedly used by over 80 % of GPs in England and its compliance platform by more than 60 % of GP practices, making it one of the leading “back‑office” technology providers in the primary care market. In addition to traditional GP technology, Clarity has also developed specialist software, such as career documentation and portfolio tools designed to streamline administrative tasks for roles like physiotherapists and paramedics working in Primary Care Networks.

In 2021 Clarity Informatics underwent a major transition when it was acquired by Agilio Software, a larger provider of compliance, learning, and workforce management systems for healthcare. Following the acquisition, Clarity’s products and services were rebranded under the Agilio umbrella — for example, its core compliance and workforce platform became Agilio TeamNet, while other systems were integrated into Agilio’s wider Primary Care offering. Though the Clarity name has evolved, the organisation continues to focus on delivering trusted technology that helps healthcare professionals manage compliance, workforce challenges, and clinical guidance more effectively.

Overall, Clarity Informatics has played an important role in digitising and supporting primary care operations in the NHS, helping clinicians and administrators reduce administrative burden, access high‑quality clinical information, and focus more time on patient care.
