Web Content Liaison Officer – Durham County Council

PURPOSE OF THE POST

All officers employed within the Education Department, have, as well as their specific post related responsibilities, a general responsibility to contribute to the successful operation of the Education Service by recognising that the purpose of the Department is facilitating and supporting learning in the County and that doing so requires staff to work together in teams and co-operate to achieve this objective. The general responsibilities of the post therefore include:-

To contribute to improving the quality of education and learning opportunities for the people of the County by assisting:

  • Individual clients and service users.
  • Headteachers and other heads of establishments and services of the LEA and other teaching and support staff on managerial, administrative, procedural, resource and other matters.
  • Colleague officers and inspectors and, where appropriate, governors and Elected Members in supporting schools and other educational establishments in their work.

This will involve supporting the senior management team of that Department and the wider group of the Department’s officers in:

  • Implementing the policies of the LEA as they bear on the individual’s post and responsibilities.
  • Providing direct advice and support to clients of the education service.
  • Responding to requests for advice from headteachers and heads of other educational establishments or services.
  • Assisting in the organisation of, and taking part in, County Council in-service training and personal development programmes.
  • Assisting in the implementation of special projects as appropriate to the postholder’s sphere of work.
  • Contributing to regular review processes.
  • Maintaining an effective and up to date expertise and ongoing involvement in policy implementation, specifically in relation to the duties of the post but also more generally.

Accountability and Management Climate

The postholder will report to the Education Information Officer. In order to successfully discharge the Department’s functions continuous close teamwork is essential. The postholder is therefore expected to give a high priority to maintaining co-operative working relationships with colleagues in ITSS.

Key Functions:

The post of Web Content Liaison Officer is a temporary fixed term appointment (funded from the e_government grant).

The postholder will be responsible for liaising with content editors in various Education Services to ensure that the information on the Durham County Council website supports parents who wish to use the Online Admissions facility.

To meet the e_government Priority Outcomes, there are specific services and information that has to be available online, the postholder will have an important role in co-ordinating the provision of the information.

Specific Duties and responsibilities:

Work with departmental content editors:

  • to review and expand the information on the DCC website to support parents who wish to use the Online Admissions facility
  • update school information on DCC website – working with Web Team to ensure school details are updated from EMS, providing school photos, links to Ofsted reports, links to school websites
  • liaise with ITSS Curriculum Team about content and provision of school websites
  • to review the provision and presentation of information for parents and carers about all Education Services

Assist in the development of new facilities and routines to enable web-based data entry

Assist the Communications Officer with information pages for the Internet, Intranet and Extranet

Monitor procedures and provide suitable reports for all aspects of the work

Other IT related tasks as required by the service

Variation in the Role

Given the dynamic nature of the role and structure of LEA Education Departments at the present time, it must be accepted that, as the Department’s work develops and changes, there will be a need for adjustments to the role and responsibilities of the post. The duties specified above are, therefore, not to be regarded as either exclusive or exhaustive. They may change from time to time commensurate with the grading level of the post and following consultation with the officer which may, if he/she so wishes, involve a union representative.
